April 2013

We were grateful to be able to watch the General Conference broadcast on April 13th and 14th and to hear the talks of our Prophet and other General Authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Their inspirational talks will serve us well if we apply them to the way we live our life.

Almost every day we are treated to sunsets like this one or even some that are more spectacular.

This caribou lives down the street from us.

This is the entrance to the wood carver's shop and home.  It is a steep walk down to the shop and his home is below the shop.

This wood carver is also the Branch President of the Tubao Branch and is a gifted wood carver who can carve anything a person desires.

This is the Branch President in his shop that has a beautiful view of a small valley.

These are samples of  his excellent work.  On the left is the Captain Moroni, then Joseph Smith, the large carving is a nativity scene.  In the front is the Liahona.

This is a view of the valley below the wood carvers home and shop.

These boys were playing in the river below the Branch Presidents shop and home.

Another beautiful sunset looking toward the Philippine Sea from our house.

There are two families - 2 children in one family and 4 children in another family.  The fathers baptised their children.  The mother of the 4 children is an active member of another religion but is so impressed with the youth of the LDS church that she was happy when her children wanted to be baptised and grow up with the LDS religion in their lives.

Laying the foundation of a home being built across the street from our home.

Most of the work on a house is manual labor.

This mother of  2 children wept throughout the baptismal service.  She said she was so happy to be baptised and to know her husband, who is working abroad, will be baptised when he comes home.

This is a sweet couple that we admire for their dedication to the Church.  They were baptised a little over a year ago and have been to the temple.  He had a stroke and doesn't speak much and it was a long recovery.  They are devoted to the Church and faithfully attend all their meetings.

Another beautiful sunset over the South China/Philippine Sea.

Sunsets are the most beautiful of any place we have lived.

The home of a family we visited with.

The owner of the store where we get our gas told me he is glad our Church is in the Philippines because the Church does so much good for everybody.

The name of the business where we get our drinking and cooking water is called "Living Water"
The water could be delivered but we prefer to have contact with as many people as we can so we go to the business to get our water.

On the way to visit more families we took this photo.

Riders on jeepney's and other forms of transportation just hop on the vehicle and cling on.

These two sister missionaries (Sister Briones and Sister Paduga) went with us to look at apartments where they and two other sister missionaries could live.  They were surprised to find two rabbits in the courtyard next to an apartment we were looking at.  The rabbits were the first we had seen since arriving in the Philippines.

The sisters were so bubbly and pleasant to be with.  They are very good missionaries and love serving the Lord.

This rarely used airport is a private airport in Baguio City.

Sister Fullmer buying Mango's from a street vendor.  The green Mango's are sour which we do not like.

Rice Terraces in a valley on the way up the mountain to Baguio City.

The road to Baguio City is a winding mountain road and, as you can see, it can also be dangerous if a driver is not careful.

A group shot of the senior missionary couples with President and Sister Monahan.  President and Sister Mortensen were not with us this day as they had a speaking commitment in a branch a couple of hours away.  The photo was taken at the strawberry farms near Baguio.

Another photo of the strawberry farm.

The strawberry ice cream is delicious and is made with coconut milk.  So good for the figure!  Here in the Philippines they call it "Dirty Ice Cream".  We don't know why!  This was our first attempt to try it and it is delicious.

This photo was taken at a business called Easter Weaving.  You can watch them weave and also purchase the items they weave.

This is a photo looking out our balcony window of the hotel we stayed in in Baguio.  The runners are part of a 63 mile Marathon.

This is "Jack Fruit."  It is very good if you know how to prepare it.

Very pretty trees that seem to bloom more in the summer and the trees have very few leaves but are covered with the red flowers that look like small orchid's up close.  Some Filipino's cluster them together to make a Mother's Day Corsages.  The name of the tree is "Fire Tree."

We have now completed 9 months of our mission and we continue to see the Lord's blessings in our lives.  We are gratefully for the knowledge we have that our Savior Jesus Christ lives and is our daily example of how we should live our lives.  We pray the Lord's choicest blessings on each of our family and friends.
